Deepfake Viral Video: Rashmika Mandanna Says “I feel really hurt,” Amitabh Bachchan Comes In Support & Govt. Reacts!

Popular actress Rashmika Mandanna fell prey to a malicious cybercrime recently, when a deepfake video surfaced on social media. The video, originally featuring British Indian influencer Zara Patel, showcased her in a black outfit entering an elevator. Shockingly, Rashmika's face had been digitally manipulated into Zara's.

Reacting to this the actress expressed her emotions by taking to an Instagram story and Twitter/X, she wrote, “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused. Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends and well wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this. Several came in support of Rashmika, a journalist who called out for legal action against the government by sharing the original and fake videos. Retweeting the fake video, the Bollywood Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan who worked as the father of the actress in the film ‘Goodbye’ also came in support of her and wrote, “Yes this is a strong case for legal.” Also retweeted the original video for the proper information. 

Now, the Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekar has also reacted to this ‘deepfake’ video. Taking to Twitter/X he wrote, “PM @narendramodi ji's Govt is committed to ensuring Safety and Trust of all DigitalNagriks using Internet.”

Further stating the IT rules notified in April 2023, the Minister added, “Under the IT rules notified in April, 2023 - it is a legal obligation for platforms to ➡️ensure no misinformation is posted by any user  AND ➡️ensure that when reported by any user or govt, misinformation is removed in 36 hrs ➡️If platforms do not comply wth this, rule 7 will apply and platforms can be taken to court by aggrieved person under provisions of IPC. ➡️Deep fakes are latest and even more dangerous and damaging form of misinformation and needs to be dealt with by platforms.”

What are Deepfakes?

Deepfakes are deceptive videos created through advanced Artificial Intelligence techniques, convincingly portraying events or speeches that never occurred. These manipulations involve digitally altering a person's body or face to make them resemble someone else, leading to highly realistic yet entirely fabricated content.

In her upcoming project, Rashmika Mandanna is set to dazzle audiences in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's highly anticipated film 'Animal,' slated for release on December 1st. Sharing the screen with Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol.
