Time When Iconic Sridevi Was Paid More Than Superstar Rajinikanth

Tell me there’s anyone who doesn’t know the Indian film industry’s dear actress Sridevi! Without any doubt, she was one of the greatest actors of all time and will continue to be immortal among us with her fabulous performances hailing not only from Bollywood but also from Tollywood, Kollywood, Mollywood and Sandalwood. Also, cited as the “First Female Superstar” of Indian Cinema.

Remembering an initial career days moment, when Sridevi was paid higher than the superstar Rajinikanth. Revealing this in a game Prakash Raj hosted game show ‘Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi’, recalling her first film as a heroine named ‘Moondru Mudichu’ directed by K Balachander.

Working for the 1976 Tamil film, Sridevi was paid Rs 5000 while Rajinikanth was paid Rs 2000 and also starring Kamal Haasan charged Rs 30,000. As per the actress, he was paid the highest amount because he was well-known in the industry at that time while she and Rajinikanth were newcomers.

Sridevi had worked with many big stars and one of them was Rajinikanth, with whom she shared a very special bond both on and off screen. So, further talking about Rajinikanth’s closeness with her mother, she said, “Rajini was very close to my mother. He was like a son. When we were all talking, Rajini would ask how he can become a big star like Kamal. My mother would say, you will definitely become like that. Rajini wanted to earn Rs. 30,000.”

And recalling a picnic scene from the film where Kamal Haasan falls into the lake and Rajinikanth did not come to his rescue. She added, “Instead of saying ‘Poitare Poitare’, I started yelling ‘Pootare Pootare’ (a colloquial usage). Kamal sir was holding onto the boat and laughing so much at this that the boat was shaking. And then the Director Balachander was yelling and asking why the boat was shaking.”

Evergreen superstar actress Sridevi left her heavenly abode on 24th February 2018 in Dubai where she went to attend her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding.
