The beauty of watching cinema is when a small budgeted and out-of-now-where flick turns out to be an excellent watch and throws a lovely surprise at you. In 2008, on this day a beautiful and well-intentioned movie called Aamir released which starred Rajeev Khandelwal and was directed by Raj Kumar Gupta.
Aamir tells a story of a young Muslim, Dr. Aamir Ali (played brilliantly by Rajeev Khandelwal) who lands himself becomes a mere puppet in the hands of Islamic extremist to carry out bombing in the crowded city of Mumbai at their behest.
A remake of movie, Cavite, Aamir is a event based film where so many things happen in a nick of time. Right from the opening when Dr. Aamir Ali arrives at the airport and within a minute is handed over a phone only to become a scapegoat. From this moment till the enthralling climax, there is no turning back as each and every sequence is so well-made with electrifying background score and rocking music score by supremely talented Amit Trivedi. Watch for the Rajeev Khandelwal’s expression in the song “Haara” beautifully written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Hats off to Raj Kumar Gupta for giving us such a fantastic film that will keep you on your toes.
Ronnie Screwvala, founder of UTV, took a big risk with Aamir with first time director Rajkumar Gupta with first time film actor Rajeev Khandelwal. Aamir was also the debut film of cinematographer Alphonse Roy, music director Amit Trivdei and the producer UTV Spotboy, which released against a more popular Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai starrer Sarkar Raj. However, the moment Aamir released, solid word-of-mouth reviews started pouring, praising Rajeev Khandelwal’s heart winning performance and Rajkummar Gupta impeccable direction
With with a shoe string budget of Rs 3.50, Aamir could collect Rs 2.42 crore at the end of is theater release. From Pop Diaries, we highly recommend to watch and enjoy every minute of it.
