The biopic drama, Samrat Prithviraj, will be the first film of YRF films on a popular historical figure which stars Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chillar, Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood in key roles.
Samrat Prithviraj tells the story of one of the most influential Indian king from the Chauhan dynasty who achieved military successes against several neighboring Hindu kingdoms at a very young age. He also fought against the ruthless Muhammed Ghori to protect his community from the hands of foreign invasion
Directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who earlier made Mohalla Assi, Samrat Prithviraj carries mammoth expectations considering the star cast, production values and the story of great ruler whose stories should have been told long before. The film opens with a bang in the first half with sequences keeping you engaged. However, the second half tumbles down as the plot loses focus, only to be saved by a tight climax. Also, none of songs have any impact, considering all of them have been composed by Shankar Eshaan Loy along with few unwanted scenes.
Samrat Prithviraj stands tall thanks to the performances by the principle characters. To begin with, Akshay Kumar is striking as the king Prithviraj as he puts in effortless performance. Manushi Chillar shows confidence in her first film while Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood and Manav Vij are excellent.
Overall, the 2 hours 13 minutes film has everything going in its favor, right from the introduction of critical characters, background score, visual effects and last fight scene, which is enough to make it in the list of must-watch film of this year. Go for it !!!
