Box Office pumped up as the biopic dramas, Samrat Prithviraj and Major, showed promises while action drama Vikram became one of best opening film in Tamil Nadu.
One of the most expensive film in recent times, Samrat Prithviraj opened on a slow note at the box office yesterday with 20 % occupancy in the morning shows. However, the collections picked up towards the evening and night shows, especially in the mass dominated areas of UP, MP and Rajasthan. The reviews of Samrat Prithiviraj has been mixed till now but if the multiplex janta shows up, the collections will definitely escalate on Saturday.
As per the trade report, the early estimates of Akshay Kumar starrer has touched somewhere between Rs 10-11 crore which is below what Bachchan Paandey (Rs 13.25 crore) minted when it was released in March during Holi time. The budget of historical drama is estimated to be Rs 300 crore and has been released in close to 5000 screens across the globe.
Prthviraj Chauhan has been one of the most influential Indian king from the Chauhan dynasty who achieved military successes against several neighboring Hindu kingdoms at a very young age. Superstar Akshay Kumar is playing the role of the great ruler which will be directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who earlier made Mohalla Assi.
The second big release of the week is Major which chronicles the life and story of the brave soldier Sandeep Unnikrshnan (played by Adivi Sesh) who led a very difficult operation in 26/11 Mumbai attack at the Taj hotel. The biopic drama has opened very well in AP/Telangana area with Rs 6-7 crore but was poor in the Hindi version with Rs 60-70 lakhs, bringing the total in all languages to Rs 7-8 crore at the box office which is fair, considering the budget to be estimated at Rs 30 crore.
The action thriller, Vikram, turned out to the best opening film for Kamal Hassan as it collected Rs 20-22 crore just in Tamil Nadu. Equipped with solid reviews, Vikram turned out to be the 3rd highest opening film of 2022 in TN after Valimai (Rs 36.17 crore) and Beast (Rs 31.40 crore).
Unfortunately, Vikram could not do much in the Hindi belt as it collected just around Rs 25 lakhs, bringing the overall first day total to Rs 34 crore at the box office which is simply superb. The budget of Vikram is Rs 150 crore and also stars two supremely talented Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil.
