A long delayed project, hugely popular star cast but riveting music, Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (guest appearance) starrer Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam finally made it to the theaters on 24th May 2002.  A remake his successful Tamil film Thotta Chinungi (1995) , producer K. C. Bokadia had signed on K. S. Adhiyaman to direct the film (he also made the Tamil version).

Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam started its first production in 1996 when Sunny Deol, Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawala were supposed to the film. When the film was rejected, Salman KhanMadhuri Dixit and Shahrukh Khan stepped into their shoes to fill it up. Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam had music composed by  Nadeem-Shravan, Nikhil-Vinay, Daboo MalikBappi Lahiri, Bali Brahmabhatt, and Sajid-Wajid while lyrics was penned by Sameer.

This is the only movie where Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan made the last on-screen appearance after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam before they officially broke up their relationship.  Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam was the third film to feature the Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan come together after Karan Arjun (1995) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Madhuri Dixit was cast opposite both Khans for the fourth time–she worked with Salman Khan in the flop Dil Tera Aashiq (1993) and the blockbusters Saajan (1991) and Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994); and with Shah Rukh Khan in Anjaam (1994), Koyla (1997), and Dil To Pagal Hai (1997).

Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam was panned by critics but due to the popularity of Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan coming together for the first time helped the film sail at the ticket window. According to the Boxofficeindia.comHum Tumhare Hain Sanam was released at 300 screens to Rs 1.42 crore. The film collected Rs 4.14 crore in its first weekend and went onto collect Rs 6.84 crore in its first week. Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam ended its theatrical run with Rs 13.52 crores against a budget of Rs 12 crores and turned out to be profitable for its makers.
