Thanks to the adrenalin pumping trailer and the star power of Ajith, Valimai took a solid opening on its first day in Tamil Nadu easily beating the previous record held by Rajnikanth starrer Annaatthe which collected Rs 24 crore on a holiday. Releasing in 1000 screens in Tamil Nadu and with solid buzz, the action drama scored a massive Rs 31 crore opening which was simply amazing.

Ajith starrer is also releasing in Hindi and with films like Pushpa giving an edge to 83, it needs to be seen if Valimai can give some competition to Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi which releases today and carries big budget. Valimai is directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor and Huma Qureshi in key roles.
