IPL Auction 2024: Retained & Released Players List

The IPLAuction 2024 is fast approaching and it promises to be a fascinating event. Boasting one of the most talented and deep rosters in the league's history, the IPL's 12 teams have the difficult task of deciding which players to let go, and who to keep for another season. While the auction can be a nerve-wracking affair at times, with teams scrambling to pick up the best available talent, it provides a great opportunity to strategize. 

The auction pool in 2024 is quite deep, and there are some quality players likely to be retained by their franchises. In particular, expect to see the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Dinesh Karthik remain at Royal Challengers Bangalore. Andre Russell is likely to make a return to the Knight Riders, while Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya should remain with the Delhi Daredevils. The Mumbai Indians are likely to extend their contracts of MS Dhoni, Kieron Pollard, and Jasprit Bumrah, among others. 

When it comes to players who will be released ahead of the 2024 auction, there are several experienced stars likely to face the axe. Few have been as influential in the IPL as Chris Gayle, but the injury woes that plagued him in recent seasons mean that the West Indian is unlikely to remain in the Kings 11 Punjab squad. Another big name facing the exit is the Sunrisers Hyderabad's David Warner. After decades at the top of the IPL, Warner's age could prompt SRH to part ways with him. 

The spin world is set to be revolutionized in 2021, with the sacrificial lamb likely to be Piyush Chawla. Though the KKR veteran still warrants selection in most parts of the world, the IPL's 12 teams may not be so sentimental. Other experienced spinners including Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra, and Pravin Tambe are all likely to be released, their great deeds are now nothing more than memories.

All things considered, it is going to be an exciting auction in 2024. With teams forced to make difficult decisions in the retention process, the budget left for the auctions could be crucial.
