India's captain Rohit Sharma put in a double shift at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday, with a sizable crowd of Indian fans who are pouring energy to the nearly four-hour practice session. There's growing doubt that Rohit may drop down the batting order to allow the in-form opening jodi of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul to continue their roles at the top.
During the session, the Indian team had 4 separate nets. In one net, Jaiswal and Rahul took turns to bat, while Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli practiced in some separate one. The 3rd net saw Rohit paired with the ever-energetic Rishabh Pant, while the final net was taken by Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar.
As per expectations, India’s batting lineup from positions 1 to 8 was on the display, but Rohit arrived about one hour earlier than planned with Pant and other support staff.
True to his style, Rohit had to face several side-arm throwdowns from Nuwan Seneviratne, along with regular deliveries from right-arm specialists Raghavendra and Dayanand Garani.
The Indian skipper focused on leaving deliveries pitched in the right areas, but whenever a short ball was delivered, he would pull it wonderfully.
For the Australian-based Indian fam, the open session was akin to kids in a sweet shop, as they were right next to the nets.
Moreover, Bengal pacers Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar (reserve pacer) impressed everyone with their bowling. Mukesh’s deliveries flew in the air, which tested Virat Kohli, while Akash asked tough questions to Shubman Gill, who looked at ease.
