Punjab Kings have made a wonderful beginning to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. The franchise reportedly had both Shreyas Iyer & Rishabh Pant on their radar before the IPL 2025 auction, but circumstances only allowed them to bid for Iyer.
Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, seemed in a relief not to be acquired by the Punjab team and expressed his happiness at joining Lucknow Super Giants for a record sum of INR 27 crore after saying goodbye the Delhi Capitals.
As Punjab Kings outperform LSG in the current campaign, a quote attributed to Punjab co-owner Preity Zinta got traction on social media, only to be revealed as fake. In an alleged quote, Zinta appeared to compare Iyer and Pant, labeling the latter a "big name" & the former a "big performer." Anyhow, the Bollywood actress took to social media to clarify that the quote was not authentic.
"We had both Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer- options we could have taken in the team. But we wanted a big performer, not a big name...so we took Shreyas Iyer in the team," the quote said.
"I'm so sorry but this is FAKE NEWS!", she stated.

Punjab Kings achieved some amazing victories in recent days, particularly against Kolkata Knight Riders, where they successfully defended a score of 111, setting a record in IPL history. Yuzvendra Chahal came out as the hero for PBKS in that match.
During an after-match discussion on YouTube, Preity Zinta expressed her excitement over the outcome. “I just wanted to say I'm so, so happy,” she shared with Chahal. “In the past, we used to lose matches that were already won. But today, we won a match that looked lost!” Chahal then jokingly replied, “Woh past tha! (that was past),” which brought a bright smile to Zinta's face & a touching response. “Exactly! So I'm really happy about that,” she concluded.
