After Today Group launched India’s first AI anchor named ‘Sana’ earlier this year left everyone shocked and worried mainly the young rising journalists. And now another regional Odia news channel ‘Orissa TV’ has introduced its first AI anchor ‘Lisa’ who will present the news in Odia and English but can speak multiple languages, and is all set to revolutionize TV broadcasting and journalism, as per a tweet by OTV.
But what do you think, is it really fair? Mainly talking about the young rising journalists who work day and night, and travel miles from their homes to make their place at the top without even getting properly paid or proper training. But they do and learn on their own, as once my friend (a fresher) said, “No one gives proper training for a fresher anchor, they’ve to do on their own.” And according to the Times of India, OTV said training Lisa was not an easy task, and that they are hoping to train her to a point where she becomes proficient in Odia and can also easily interact with others. If so much effort of training will be put in humans then will have excellent workers that will take any company up.
Also, practically not any robot can do everything the way humans perform on the panel. While Shailaja Bajpai, a media critic, also once told DW, “The chances are while bots can do news bulletins, they may not be able to react and conduct debates the way individual anchors do today.” As Bajpai further said, “AI will definitely have an abiding influence on journalism in general… However, it is too early to say how deep it will be and how much of a difference it will make.”
Not only for the news anchor, but AI has also raised fear amongst news content writers too. As said, we can easily get the whole information in a click of a button by using AI then efforts of humans gaining so much information about the world in one brain to AI replacing everything after its sudden launch. Also, in the end, it is an artificial robot and the natural aura will be missed which might be unliked by the viewers.
It’s just the beginning, just imagine bots entirely taking away any working industry which has to be stopped soon.
