The results for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections are out, and they show a landslide victory for the MahaYuti Alliance, with them leading in over 215 seats out of the 288. The party heads will address the media and public today at 3 PM.
The MahaYuti Alliance consists of Bharatiya Janata Party, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party, who have crossed the threshold of majority seats in the states. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar will address the media in the afternoon at 3 PM.
“I thank all my ladki bahins (dear sisters) in the state and the brothers who voted in large numbers for us. The voting trend is an endorsement of our work,” said CM Eknath Shinde. He credited his flagship scheme of Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana as the main factor in this election. But he also revealed that the coalition is yet to come up with a formula to elect the Chief Minister.
The BJP is ahead with 122 seats, closing in on the majority of 144 on their own, followed by Shiv Sena with 58 seats and NCP at 36 seats. On the other hand, Congress managed to lead in only 22 seats, with Shiv Sena (UTB) at 19 seats and NCP (SP) at 13 seats.
BJP’s Pravin Darekar asserted that in an alliance, the party with the most seats should appoint their Chief Minister and demanded Devendra Fadnavis be appointed as Maharashtra's next Chief Minister. More regarding their victory and future plans could be revealed in the media address in the afternoon.
