Deputy Cheif Minister of Maharashtra and NCP Leader Ajit Pawar recently appeared on a Newslaundry podcast where he confirmed that Business Tycoon Gautam Adani was present at the meeting in Delhi before they moved to support the BJP.
Ajit Pawar was at the podcast discussing his party’s strategy for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Elections. During the interview, he was asked whether his changing stance between NCP and BJP in Maharashtra could have a negative impact on the upcoming elections. He responded firmly, that he has been in support of the NCP Party since 1999. He said, “ We do as our Senior Leader tells us to do.”
He said, “You don’t know, it's been five years, and everyone knows which industrialist’s house the meeting took place in Delhi. Showing that this will have no impact on the upcoming elections. Let it be in the past.”
According to him, five meetings in total took place during that time. The people in the meeting were Amit Shah, Gautham Adani, Praful Patel, Devendra Fadnavis and Sharad Pawar, along with other members. The name of Gautam Adani has always been associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party, and this statement from Ajit Pawar signals it. “The Blame came on me, and I took it to safeguard everyone else,” he said.
The Maharashtra Assembly Elections are taking place on 20 November. Ajit Pawar’s National Congress Party is allied with BJP, and his former Sharad Pawar-led NCP is in ties with Congress.
