A powerful explosion rocked an ordnance factory near Nagpur this morning, taking away the lives of 8 workers and leaving seven others injured. This accident took place in Bhandara district, Maharashtra. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari confirmed the fatalities during the later phases of the day.

"In Bhandara, at the ordnance factory, a major mishap has taken place, resulting in the death of eight people and injuries to seven others. This is preliminary information," the minister said, inspiring people to observe a one  minute silence in honor of those who lost their lives in the "unfortunate incident."

The explosion took place in the LTP section of the factory around 10:30 am, as reported by District Collector Sanjay Kolte. Firefighters and medical personnel were immediately called to the site to control this situation.

The blast caused the roof to collapse, trapping more than 12 workers inside. In the initial rescue efforts, 3 people were saved alive, while a body was recovered. An excavator was brought by the rescue team to clear the debris, according to senior officials.

The blast's intensity was so hefty that it was heard from five kilometers away. A thick plume of smoke was seen rising from the factory in a video filmed from a distance.
