The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, finally ended on Wednesday after 45 days of festivities in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
In 2025, the Maha Kumbh set a new record, with nearly 66 crore devotees taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. Reports say that the Kumbh Mela hosted twice as many pilgrims as the population of the US, which stood at around 34 crore.
The next Kumbh Mela will be held in 2027 in the city of Nashik, which is in Maharashtra. The religious gathering will take place at Trimbakeshwar, which is located approximately 38 km from Nashik. This city lies along the banks of the Godavari River, the 2nd-longest river in India, and is also home to the Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.
It is assumed that the Kumbh Mela in 2027 will run from July 17 to August 17.
At the NASSCOM Technology & Leadership Forum 2025 in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared ambitious plans to incorporate advanced technology in the 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela.
He said, “Technology would play a key role in enabling those unable to bathe in the holy water to experience it virtually.”
