Set to be held on Sunday, June 9 at 7:15 pm at Rashtrapati Bhavan, The event will also witness the oath-taking of the Council of Ministers, constituting the new cabinet under Prime Minister Modi's leadership.
Confirming the acceptance of the invitations, the Ministry of External Affairs announced the scheduled arrival of several leaders in New Delhi on Sunday to partake in the ceremony. Major hotels like the Leela, Taj, ITC Maurya, Claridge's, and Oberoi are already under tight security. Officials have arranged safe routes for the dignitaries' travel between their hotels and the venue.
The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by over 8,000 guests, including various professionals and cultural performers.
All about the swearing-in ceremony:
1. At 7:15 pm on Sunday, President Droupadi Murmu will officiate the oath-taking ceremony, administering the oath of office and secrecy to the Prime Minister and other members of the Union Council of Ministers.
2. Under strict security measures, including paramilitary personnel, NSG commandos, drones, and snipers, will safeguard Rashtrapati Bhawan during the ceremony. A No-Fly Zone over Delhi from June 9 to June 10 prohibits aerial platforms to prevent criminal or terrorist threats, with penalties for violations under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
3. Enhanced security measures are in place for foreign dignitaries, with special protocols implemented at their hotels. Designated routes to ensure their safe transit from prestigious hotels such as Leela, Taj, ITC Maurya, Claridges, and Oberoi to the venue. Anticipated road closures and traffic diversions accompany increased border checks starting today.
4. Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed his attendance at Modi's swearing-in ceremony on Sunday. Joining him will be leaders from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius, and Seychelles, reflecting India's commitment to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy.
5. Supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the United States are planning celebrations across 22 cities to mark the event. The Overseas Friends of BJP-USA (OFBJP-USA) will host events in cities such as New York, Jersey City, Washington DC, Boston, Tampa, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco over the next two weekends. OFBJP-USA plans to launch an advocacy campaign to strengthen India-US relations.

The change of guard ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan will be suspended on June 8, 15, and 22 to accommodate preparations for Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony and President Droupadi Murmu's address to Parliament. This weekly military tradition allows a new group of the President's Bodyguards to take duty.
7. The inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha will commence around June 15, featuring the oath-taking of newly elected members over two days. Following this, the election of a new Speaker will take place, and the President will address a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, officially inaugurating the session. Expected to conclude by June 22, this session marks the beginning of parliamentary proceedings.
8. In the recent parliamentary elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party-NDA secured a decisive victory, despite Modi's party falling short of the halfway mark by 32 seats in the 543-member House.
9. Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi's Cabinet is expected to include 27-30 ministers, with roughly a third being allies from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). There will also be some ministers of state. The formula shared with allies suggests a Cabinet minister’s post for every four-five MPs and a junior minister’s post for every two, according to people aware of the matter. Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and JP Nadda are leading negotiations with allies.
10. The NDA, comprising key allies like the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), Shiv Sena, and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (LJP(R)), collectively won 293 seats, ensuring a comfortable majority.
On Friday, President Droupadi Murmu designated Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister-elect following his election as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners submitted their letters of support.The PM also adressed that, "This 18th Lok Sabha is an important milestone towards fulfilling those dreams when the country will celebrate 100 years of independence in 2047."
