On September 26, NCT’s agency SM Entertainment announced Jaehyun’s enlistment, and said that he has received acceptance from Military Manpower Administration and will join the Army Band. The agency further stated that to ensure the safety of both soldiers and their families and to avoid congestion, no public event will be held at the recruit training centre on the day of his enlistment.

Following the enlistment news, Jaehyun wrote a message for his fans, "Have you been well? You must be surprised at the sudden news, but I will enlist in the military in November. I want to express my feelings to NCTzens shortly. If it weren’t for this job, I would have never been able to experience the precious memories with fans, our precious relationship, and the size of love, and I am grateful for it once again."

The message further read, "I’ve always gone at my own pace, and I am so thankful and love all of you who have always trusted and walked by my side. Although I say that I will be back quickly and wait just a little bit, I will surely miss you all. I will return back healthily so I hope you all are well and healthy while I am gone. I will continue to work hard as I look back on our memories and anticipate the future that is to come. We’re unconditionally timeless.”
