A new executive order was passed last Monday night to ban trans participation in girl's and woman's sports. This controversial move has reignited the debate about gender identity and sports inclusion in the USA. This move by Trump comes as no surprise. During his election campaigning, he mentioned several times about his plans related to transgender troops. In August, while campaigning in North Carolina he mentioned, "If you want to have a sex change or a social justice seminar, then you can do it somewhere else, but you're not going to do it in the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, Space Force, or the United States Marines — sorry".
What is the new order about?
The order shows the transgender community dismissing opportunities by labelling them as radical gender ideology. Further, it reads that "A man's assertion that he is a woman, and his requirement that others honour this falsehood, is not consistent with the humility and selflessness required of a service member".

Trump emphasized that his administration's focus is on making and protecting cisgender women athletes. As he declares that “women’s sports will be only for women.” If we go back in time to his first term in office in 2017, he mentioned a policy with was followed by unexpected tweets this is said to echo this order. This policy caught the military off-guard as an estimated 15,000 military personnel are transgender. The policy was implemented in 2019 and the policy was about barring new trans recruits and those who are seeking transition while serving the military but allowing existing service members receiving gender-affirming care to remain in the service. In the United States, the issue of transgender athletes has been conflicting and in recent years, many states have passed the same legislation. Many sports leagues have maintained a strict mandate on testosterone levels and the transition time of an individual. But Trump's approach is more comprehensive and has put a very stringent stance forward. Right now the future of the transgender community in sports is hanging from a thread and remains uncertain. This order has widened the debate about balancing fairness, inclusivity and rights of athletes making it an issue which has outraged many people and led to a cultural war which is shaping US policies.
