Anna Hathaway confirms Princess Diaries 3, set to have a new director

On Friday, Anna Hathaway confirmed the production of Princess Diaries 3 through an Instagram post. She is set to reprise her role as Mia for the third film.

Sharing the selfie video on her Instagram account, Anna Hathaway recreated the iconic 'Shut Up' line. She showed the clips of her counting on her fingers. For the first and second, she intercepted it with clips from the first and second film, followed by showing three fingers and saying, "Shut up."

Last year, while talking at an interview, she shared her knowledge on any possible news about the franchise. She said, "We’re in a good place. There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place."

According to reports, The Princess Diaries 3 film is produced by Debra Martin Chase who created the franchise in the first place, along with Anna Hathaway by her Somewhere Pictures. The first two films were produced by Walt Disney. The Crazy Rich Asians Director, Adele Lim, has been appointed as the director for the film. “As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life. We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide," she said in a statement shared by her.

The Princess Diaries franchise follows the story of a teenager, Mia Thermopolis, played by Anne Hathaway, who finds that her estranged father is the king of a frictional Kingdom of Genovia, and after her grandmother comes forth, she has to leave her city life to fulfil her role as the Princess. There is no release date announced for the film.
