Pictures from the set in Hawaii shows Dwayne The Rock Johnson bringing the character of Maui to life in the upcoming Moana live action film. He voiced the character in the original animated version of the film.
The 52-year-old actor can be seen on the set shooting shirtless, showcasing his chiselled body while shooting for the live-action adaptation of Disney’s Moana. In pictures, he can be seen walking in a skirt made out of leaves and a whalebone necklace around his neck. His body is covered in tattoos similar to Maui and could be seen wielding Maui’s iconic fish hook, which is how the demigod channels his magic. The brown shades over her eyes and long lushious black hair are what completes the whole look.
The Rock is in Hawaii, shooting for the live-action adaptation of the original film released in 2016. The film has gathered a lot of hype and will reach the big screens on 10 July 2026. The Rock is accompanied by 16-year-old Catherine Laga'aia, who will play the protagonist Moana. The film will be a musical just like the original, with the music provided by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also produced music for another Disney film, Encanto.
The live-action will feature returning characters like Moana, Maui, John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina, and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala. The live-action was announced after the original became a box office hit worldwide. As shoots for the live-action are in play, the animated sequel is set to release on 28 November in theatres around the globe.
