Gujarat's Gandhinagar played host to the glamour and glitz of Bollywood as the 69th edition of the Filmfare Awards unfolded on January 28, 2024. The prestigious ceremony, in collaboration with Gujarat Tourism, witnessed the gathering of the who's who in the Hindi film industry at GIFT City.
The two-day celebration, opening with a grand Curtain Raiser, culminated in a star-studded night hosted by the dynamic trio of Karan Johar, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Maneish Paul. The event not only showcased dazzling red-carpet appearances but also featured breathtaking performances and inspiring winning moments, as the industry's finest talents were honoured with the iconic Black Lady, a symbol of credibility and success in Indian cinema.
Top Acting Honors: Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor
The power couple of Bollywood, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, emerged as the stars of the night, winning the coveted Best Actress and Best Actor awards, respectively. Alia Bhatt's stellar performance in 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' earned her the Best Actress title, while Ranbir Kapoor's outstanding portrayal in 'Animal' secured him the Best Actor accolade.
Best Film and Director: 'Animal' and '12th Fail' Dominate
Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Animal' dominated the awards night, clinching a total of six trophies. The film, known for its gripping narrative and stellar performances, made its mark in multiple categories. On the other hand, Vidhu Vinod Chopra's '12th Fail' emerged victorious, earning some of the most prestigious awards of the night, including Best Film and Best Director.
Critics' Choice: Vikrant Massey and Rani Mukherji/Shefali Shah
In the Critics' category, Vikrant Massey bagged the Best Actor award for his role in '12th Fail.' Meanwhile, Rani Mukherji and Shefali Shah shared the honours for Best Actress (Critics) for their exceptional performances in 'Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway' and 'Three Of Us,' respectively.
Supporting Roles and Debut Awards:
Vicky Kaushal, recognized for his impactful performance in Rajkumar Hirani's 'Dunki,' took home the Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male) award. Shabana Azmi won the Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Female) for 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.' Aditya Rawal and Alizeh Agnihotri were crowned Best Debut (Male) and Best Debut (Female) for 'Faraaz' and 'Farrey,' respectively.
Music and Technical Excellence:
The music of 'Animal' dominated the night, winning the Best Music Album award, while Bhupinder Babbal and Shilpa Rao secured the Best Playback Singer (Male) and (Female) awards for their contributions to the film. Harshavardhan Rameshwar's exceptional background score for 'Animal' was acknowledged with the Best Background Score award.
The technical brilliance of '12th Fail' was recognized across various categories, including Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Production Design.
Special Honours:
Legendary filmmaker David Dhawan received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the R.D. Burman Award for Upcoming Music Talent went to Shreya Puranik for 'Satranga' from 'Animal.'
