Major Twist In The T20I Captaincy Race; Know More

Ajit Agarkar led selection committee announce indian team for the the white ball tour of Sri-lanka.While it was expected that Hardik Pandya would be appointed as the new captain for T20I, there has been a major twist in the race. 

According to reports, both Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar want Suryakumar Yadav to take charge of the indian tema in the shortest format of the game till 2026. Reports state that the decision made by the committee is for long term stability.Both Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar have spoken to Hardik Pandya about the decision.

Hardik led the team in absence of Rohit Sharma for a long period of time post the 2022 T20 World Cup and was expected to lead the team before Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made a comeback in the team.

Gambhir and Suryakumar share a long time association as he played under the India's new head coach captaincy for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from 2014 to 2017. Gambhir belives in surya's leadership abilities as he was the vice captain for KKR for few years.

SKY also lead Indian cricket team in seven T20I against South Africa and Australia last year when Hardik Pandya was injured post 2023 World Cup. Surya led India to a 4-1 victory against Australia and 1-1 draw against Proteas with one game washed out. Surya aslo captianed Mumbai Indians(MI) once against KKR IN 2023 IPL.

Also few days ago, Jay Shah stated that Rohit will captain India in other two formats by stating his name as a captain for 2025 Champions Trophy and World Test Champions (WTC) final.
