In a groundbreaking moment, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut made history by becoming the first woman to participate in the Ravan Dahan ceremony at Lav Kush Ramleela in New Delhi on the festive of Dussehra. Despite her commendable effort, where she stood poised with a bow in hand, Kangana faced challenges in shooting the arrow, prompting mixed reactions from the audience.
Kangana Ranaut Faces Setback As She Misses Bullseye
Dressed in a traditional red saree and accompanied by her sister Rangoli Chandel, Kangana joined Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on stage. The event, a ritual considered significant for Dussehra celebrations, took an unexpected turn as Kangana made three unsuccessful attempts to shoot the arrow. Undeterred by her initial failures, she persevered, chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram,’ while a member of the Lav Kush Ramleela Committee assisted her in hitting the target and this moment went viral on the internet.
However, social media was abuzz with diverse opinions about Kangana’s performance. While some praised her spirit and determination, others expressed disappointment and amusement. Comments flooded various platforms, with some users empathizing with the actress’s situation and others finding humor in the incident. Trolled her for her failed attempt, highlighting the comments on Reddit, people said, “This gives me second hand embarrassment,” “So much for being the stunt/action queen of bollywood,” “So painful to watch ,” “I can’t imagine the kind of anxiety, embarrassment Kanagana must be feeling at that time,” “This was too hard to watch,” “I can’t stop laughing the person who is speaking in the background, putla jalaya jaye. Asatya par satya ki jeet hui hai and this is so funny and embarassing, kangana should have taken YouTube classes,” etc.
The invitation extended to Kangana to perform the Ravan Dahan was symbolic, honouring the recent passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill. Lav Kush Ramleela Committee president, Arjun Singh, highlighted the significance of Kangana’s participation, emphasizing the importance of equal rights for women in all spheres of life.
He told PTI, “Be it a film star or a politician, every year we have a VIP grace our event. In the past, we have had former President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi do the honours. Among film stars, Ajay Devgn and John Abraham have been here. Last year, Prabhas did the Ravan Dahan. For the first time in 50 years of our event, it will be a woman who will do the Ravan Dahan.”
And further added, “Lav Kush Ramleela Committee also wants equal rights for women. Women's participation is increasing in every walk of life today, but there is still a long way to go. The bill will help in the development of the country and society,” he added.
