Pragya Kapoor Champions Zero-Waste Shooting for 'Azad'
While promoting her upcoming film Azad, Pragya Kapoor emphasized the importance of sustainability on film sets and highlighted how her team adopted a zero-waste shooting model for the project.
Known for her environmental advocacy, Pragya Kapoor has long championed eco-conscious practices through her foundation, Ek Saath. With Azad, she took a significant step forward by integrating those principles into the filmmaking process itself. From reducing single-use plastics to managing food waste and recycling set materials, the crew of Azad was committed to ensuring minimal environmental impact throughout the shoot.
Speaking about the experience, Kapoor said, “The film industry has the power to influence not just through stories but also through how we tell them. With Azad, we wanted to prove that it’s possible to create compelling cinema without compromising the planet.”
To implement the zero-waste model, the production partnered with local sustainability experts and waste management teams. Steel water bottles replaced plastic ones, biodegradable plates were used for meals, and all leftover materials were either reused, donated, or properly recycled. Even costumes and set designs were created with repurposed or eco-friendly materials wherever possible.
This initiative not only sets a benchmark for Indian cinema but also encourages other filmmakers to think more consciously. Kapoor’s efforts underline that being environmentally responsible isn’t just an add-on—it can be embedded into the creative and logistical core of film production.
With Azad, Pragya Kapoor is not just producing a story for the screen—she’s also rewriting the script for how Bollywood treats the planet.
