Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, is the highly anticipated sequel in the Kesari franchise. Starring Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, the film shifts focus from battlefield heroism to the legal battle following the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. It centres on lawyer C. Sankaran Nair’s courageous fight against the British Empire to expose the truth behind the tragedy. Based on the book The Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, the film presents a compelling historical courtroom drama.
The film’s cast is led by Akshay Kumar, who returns to the Kesari franchise after portraying a brave soldier in the original film based on the Battle of Saragarhi. This time, he takes on a very different role—as lawyer C. Sankaran Nair. Joining him is R. Madhavan, who plays Advocate Neville McKinley, the legal representative of the British Crown. Ananya Panday portrays Dilreet Gill, a vital ally in Nair’s fight for justice.
In the days leading up to the release, Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, and R. Madhavan paid a visit to the Golden Temple in Amritsar to offer prayers. Ananya shared a moment from the visit on social media, captioning it with, “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh,” while Akshay described the visit as deeply calming and peaceful.
The makers of Kesari 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh held a special screening in Delhi for political dignitaries. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta praised the film for its portrayal of India's independence struggle, while Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri called it a "cinematic tribute" to the freedom movement. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj and Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared similar views. During the event, Akshay Kumar thanked Prime Minister Modi for acknowledging C. Sankaran Nair’s contributions and urged the audience to respect the film’s gravity by avoiding mobile phone use.
