The trailer of the highly anticipated Bollywood film ‘Kesari 2’ was recently released, and fans are ready for this emotional tale. Karan Johar attended the trailer launch event and revealed that the film is not made with joy or sorrow, but rather with rage because we never received an apology for the Jallianwala Baug Massacre.
‘Kesari 2’ set to release on April 18, is based on the life of C Sankaran Nair, a lawyer who fought for the truth behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The film releases very closely to the actual date of the Massacre. At the trailer launch, Karan said, “On April 13, the Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place. Even back then, reports referred to it as ‘Khooni Baisakhi’. What happened that day was not a celebration, it was tragic. It was a massacre, a genocide.”
He further said, “No one could celebrate that day, but it has been remembered ever since. The film we made is neither driven by joy nor sorrow; it is fuelled by anger. Because the answer we have waited centuries for has still not come, that apology has never been given to this day.” Johar added, "This film is not just a tribute, it is a demand. It asks the British Empire for an apology through the story of the brave Sankaran Nair”.
In 2019, former UK Prime Minister Theresa May expressed "deep regret" on the massacre's 100th anniversary, describing it as a "distressing example" of British-Indian history, but the Britain has never formally apologized for the slaughter. Although she expressed regret for the pain, she did not offer a formal apology.
‘Kesari 2’, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi stars Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday in lead roles and follows the journey of lawyer S Sankaran Nair, who took on the British Empire and General Reginald Dyer in court, holding them accountable for the massacre.
