Under director Shoojit Sircar his latest biopic on Sardar Udham has set fire on the big screens. The clear passion of Shoojit investing over 20 years to make this film, clearly is shown through his work. The story of a young Sardar ‘Udam Singh’ retaliating for a bloodbath in his home, the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Fortunately for us, who are living in a free nation and watching this masterpiece of a movie, neither was ready to live a settlement.
Sardar Udham is a masterpiece in all aspects, especially giving us everything that we except a historical biopic. The main story of the film simply revolves around a hero’s mission for revenge against a sinner who obliterated all that he once loved. We might have all read and it in our textbooks or watched someone narrating it but rarely is it told with such intensity and nuance. Udham (played by Vicky Kaushal) was a teenager when he saw one of the most vicious massacres in world history. It is trauma till now that brings shivers to our very bones, enough for him to devote his whole life and death to killing that villain who caused it. Shoojit, however, makes sure not to take the simple route.
This significant attempt at mapping out one of our forgotten revolutionary movements and uncovering a man of major importance with such finesse deserves 4 stars from us!
