It’s sad to say that kidnapping has become pretty common in India, but Bollywood has rarely fallen into its clutches until recently, which connects to Meerut. In recent days, three actors have opened up about their kidnapping experiences all in and around Meerut, hinting at a pattern.
Today, comedian and actor Mushtaq Khan, famously known for his role in Welcome and recently starred in Stree 2, revealed that he was kidnapped and tortured for 12 hours. The kidnappers invited him to an award show in Meerut as a guest and even paid him in advance and took care of his flight tickets, just to kidnap him when he landed in the city.
However, it isn’t an isolated incident. Days before his kidnapping, another comedian and actor, Sunil Pal, known for his part in Bombay to Goa, claimed that he was kidnapped after being called for an event in Meerut. His described set of events matches Mushtaq Khan’s experience. They extorted Rs. 7.5 lakhs from him and released him with Rs. 20,000, even booking his flight tickets back to Mumbai.
Another comedian and actor, Rajesh Puri, known for contributing to multiple Hindi films throughout the year, came forward and claimed he was paid Rs. 35,000 in advance with flight. He explained that the kidnappers switched cars with him and later told him that he was kidnapped but dropped him mid-way after he revealed to have contacts up in Delhi.
All of these kidnapping incidents have three things in common. Firstly, they pay in advance and take care of the flight tickets. Secondly, they extort some money and eventually leave them with some money back. Lastly, the biggest similarity in these incidents is that they all occurred in Meerut. While the police are investigating this kidnapping pattern, Sunil Pal reveals a vague motive behind these kidnappings. He recalls the kidnappers promising to return the money as soon as they get a job.
These kidnappings could be out of desperation or something else, but it has put the Bollywood industry on high alert.
