Kalaburagi Police located and reunited a newborn baby boy with his parents just 30 hours after he was kidnapped from GIMS Hospital. The baby was returned to his happy parents early Wednesday by Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa SD.
The kidnapping happened around 3 p.m. on Monday, and a complaint was filed with the Bramhapur police by 5:30 p.m. In response, four special police teams were quickly formed, led by senior officers. Almost all police officers in the city were called in to help with the search.
CCTV footage showed that three women pretending to be nurses kidnapped the baby and left in an electric auto-rickshaw. Police questioned all auto drivers in the area, and by Tuesday evening, they had identified the suspects.
The three suspects—Umera, Nasarin Banu, and Fatima, aged 30 to 35—are domestic workers living near Shah Jilani Dargah. During questioning, they admitted to kidnapping the baby. They explained that a relative, who couldn't have children, had promised them ₹50,000 in exchange for a baby boy. Seeing an opportunity at GIMS Hospital, they took the child.
The police officer, Sharanappa personally returned the baby to his parents at the hospital, providing much-needed relief to the family and the community. The quick resolution of the case and the hard work of the Kalaburagi Police are being praised on social media for their smart use of technology and teamwork in handling such a sensitive situation.
