Major Review - Every Indian Should Watch The Brave Story Of Sandeep Unnikrishnan

Major reflects the scenario of war which was sudden and unexpected and that also at the financial hub of India, Mumbai. To honor the soldiers who have laid down their lives to serve the country, there are few movies being made to tell the stories of gallantry. One such movie is on the Sandeep Unnikrishnan biopic drama, Major, which stars Adivi Sesh in key role.

Major chronicles the life and story of the brave soldier Sandeep Unnikrshnan (played by Adivi Sesh) who led a very difficult operation in 26/11 Mumbai attack at the Taj hotel, which was one of four locations targeted and where 174 people were killed and more than 300 were injured. Sandeep not only managed to save 100 hostages but ensured a solid victory for our motherland.

Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, Major is one such film that has a decent first half but a solid second half which will keep you engaged till the electrifying climax. The powerful true story of Sandeep Unnikrishna along with other soldiers who have sacrificed and struggled to ensure that safety of Indian citizen is their top most priority, The makers have done a fabulous job in portraying the stress, blood and sweat displayed by our honorable soldiers. 

Couple of scenes did caught my attention especially in the second half - terrorist entering the hotel premise till the firefighters and Indian army men rescuing the hostages. and last but not the least, the final showdown - which is the climax scene showing the ultimate sacrifice by Sandeep Unnikrishnan when he exposes himself to the enemy fire. We get to see the real heroes only through some newspaper articles or social media who fought for their country, sacrificed their family and could not even return back to their motherland. Thanks to films like Shershaah and Major, which speaks the true events about making of a soldier and the hardship and struggle these war machines go through.

While Major has been an effective story telling biopic drama, the initial reels had love and romance blossom showing how Sandeep Unnikirshnan meets his wife Esha hampers the momentum of the biopic drama, though the chemistry between Adivi Sesh and Saiee Manjrekar is sparkling. Also, I feel that biopics in India can be made without songs and melodrama which sometimes play the spoilsports. Nevertheless, writing by Adivi Sesh is brilliant which should be lauded. Technically, Major boast off some strong technical support. I should start with an outstanding editing work. The background score is haunting and yet mesmerizing. The cinematography is brilliant, portraying a real-life crime with aplomb.

Talking about performance, Adivi Sesh gets into the character of Sandeep Unnikrishnan. The actor successfully shows diverse expressions of the brave solider right from the beginning when he joins the Indian Army as a rookie to the gallant soldier who fights for his country till his last breath. In the supporting role, Saimee Manjrekar, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj and Revathy have acted their part with equal justice.

So overall, Major is a must watch biopic of a brave soldier which should be lauded and appreciated for its genuine attempt. Very good 3.5/5
