Probably one of the most under-rated films, Irada was an eye-opener on ecological issues of uranium poisoning, reverse boring, fertilizer poisoning due to the green revolution and their immediate adverse impact on the people. Starring talents like Nasseruddin Shah, Divya Dutta, Arshad Warsi and Sharad Kelkar in key roles, Irada had a solid screenplay and admiring performances, especially by Divya Dutta, who even won a National Award for Best Supporting Actress. Irada collected 1.1 crore against a budget of Rs 7.50 crore but won National Award in Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation for the director Aparnaa Singh.
