The leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now able to leave prison after spending nearly six months without a trial, having recently achieved bail in a case brought by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Kejriwal’s release is expected to bolster AAP's position as it prepares to contest the upcoming Haryana Assembly election against the ruling BJP and its ally, Congress.

Kejriwal was initially taken into custody by the ED on March 21 due to allegations of money laundering linked to the supposed liquor policy scam. He was subsequently arrested by the CBI on June 26 while still in ED custody. Although he was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on July 12 for the ED case, he remained in Tihar Jail due to the CBI arrest.

During the Supreme Court proceedings, Kejriwal, who has type II diabetes, contended that the CBI detained him just as he was about to be released in the ED case. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who represented Kejriwal, described the CBI's action as an “insurance arrest” aimed at keeping the AAP leader incarcerated.
