The iconic 90s and 2000s television show CID, Dinesh Phadnis, fondly remembered as Fredericks breathed his last on Monday night at the age of 57. The news of his demise has left a deep impact on those who cherished the long-running detective series, where Phadnis etched his place as one of the most beloved characters.
CID, a staple of Indian television for two decades, became a household name, and Dinesh Phadnis, through his portrayal of Fredericks, contributed significantly to the show's success. His impeccable comedic timing and banter with Shivaji Satam's ACP Pradyuman made Fredericks a favourite among viewers.
The actor's health struggles came to light on December 2 when he was admitted to Mumbai's Tunga Hospital. Initial reports suggested a heart attack, but his close friend and co-star, Dayanand Shetty, clarified that it was due to liver damage. Shetty stated, "Dinesh Phadnis is hospitalized, and he is on a ventilator, doctors are observing him. He has not suffered a heart attack, it is a different treatment."
The sad news was confirmed by Dayanand Shetty, who portrayed Senior Inspector Daya in CID. Phadnis passed away at around midnight on December 4. The actor's last rites are scheduled to be held at Daulat Nagar Crematorium, Borivali East.
“Dinesh breathed his last at 12.08 am," he told Indian Express.
He further said, “Firstly, it wasn't a heart attack, it was liver damage, because of which he was immediately rushed to Tunga Hospital, Malad. For the last two days, he has been very critical. Today morning (Sunday) also I've learned that there's no major improvement. We're hoping he gets better soon."
Reflecting on Phadnis's health, Shetty shared, "Dinesh was getting treated for some other ailment but the medication affected his liver adversely. That's why it is always recommended to take medicines very carefully. You never know when the medicine that one is taking to treat something can cause another major ailment. One should be very careful regarding allopathic medicines."
