The destiny of the 2025 Champions Trophy remains uncertain. For now, there is no clarity on whether the event will take place. The BCCI has said that the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan, the designated host, due to no approval from the Indian government. On the other hand, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made it totally crystal clear that they will not accept a hybrid model for hosting.
A ray of hope appeared when the PCB reportedly agreed to the hybrid model, which would see India's matches played in Dubai, with certain conditions. Anyways, sources have revealed that the Indian board rejected Pakistan's "conditions," which included requests for ICC events in India to also use the hybrid model.
In the middle of this, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar stated that the Indian team is eager to play in Pakistan but is not nable to get government clearance.
"India is more eager than Pakistan to play in Pakistan. Virat Kohli would probably be dying to play there. I know the situation. If an India-Pakistan match happens, TV rights and sponsorships will soar. Let me tell you, they aren’t coming because of government issues," Shoaib Akhtar elaborated during one TV discussion.
Moreover, following his appointment as ICC Chairman, former BCCI secretary Jay Shah stopped from commenting on the Champions Trophy while outlining his priorities for the term, which include capitalizing on cricket's inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and promoting the women's match.
Anyhow, a report indicates that Jay Shah has called for a virtual Board meeting on December 5, but with no specific agenda. It remains blur whether the Champions Trophy will be discussed or not.
