Joe Root will take the field for the final time in this season when England faces New Zealand in the 3rd and final Test of the series in Hamilton. Root, who has shattered several records in recent years, is on the verge of breaking a world record and can also surpass Jacques Kallis' milestone in the third Test.
With 12,886 runs in 151 Tests, Joe Root is currently the 5th-highest run-scorer in Test cricket. He is just 114 runs away from reaching the 13,000-run mark and he can possibly become the fastest batsman to achieve this significant milestone.
Jacques Kallis contemporarily holds the record for the quickest to score 13,000 Test runs, having reached the milestone in 159 matches. Followed by Rahul Dravid, he is the one who took 160 matches to score 13,000 runs in Tests.
Ricky Ponting is third on the list by completing 13,000 Test runs in 162 matches, while Sachin Tendulkar occupies the 4th spot, having reached 13,000 runs in 163 matches. Anyways, Tendulkar holds the record for the fewest innings to reach this mark, doing so in 266 innings.
Joe Root, with 12,886 runs in 151 Tests has accumulated 36 centuries and 64 half-centuries. He is also on track to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most of the runs in Test cricket. The Indian legend finished his career with 15,921 runs in 200 Tests.
As for the ongoing series, England has already secured victory, winning both the 1st and 2nd Tests. In the opening Test, they won by a dominant 8-wicket margin, and in the 2nd Test, they sealed a 323-run victory. The third and final Test of the series will be played at Seddon Park in Hamilton from December 14 to 18th of December.
