Team India's journey in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 faced a major setback after Harmanpreet Kaur and her team lost their opening match to New Zealand. However, they managed to bounce back with a win against Pakistan in their second game.

Despite this victory, securing a semi-final spot from the group stage remains challenging. As New Zealand prepares to face Australia in their upcoming T20 World Cup match on Tuesday, the Indian squad will be rooting for the White Ferns to enhance their chances of advancing.

Even if India secures victories in their remaining matches during the group stage, their progression isn't assured. The key reason for this uncertainty is the team’s unfavorable Net Run Rate of -1.217.

Both Australia and New Zealand are performing strongly in the tournament, with Net Run Rates of +1.908 and +2.900, respectively. After their initial loss to New Zealand, India would benefit significantly if their first opponents can also defeat Australia.

If New Zealand Triumphs Over Australia

Should New Zealand win their upcoming matches, including a victory over Australia, they would finish atop the group with four wins and qualify for the knockout stage. If the Kiwis succeed against Australia, India could still advance by beating the Aussies as well.

In this scenario, India would have three victories out of four matches, while Australia would have only two wins.

If Australia Defeats New Zealand

On the other hand, if Australia manages to win against New Zealand, India's qualification prospects would take a severe hit. Given that both Australia and New Zealand have better Net Run Rates than India, Harmanpreet's team would need unexpected results to secure a place in the next round.

In terms of their historical matchups, New Zealand and Australia have faced off in 51 Women’s T20 Internationals since 2006, with New Zealand claiming victory 21 times and Australia winning 28 times.
