Dipa Karmarkar has added another feather to her cap and India's medal tally at Asian Senior Gymnast Championship. Dipa becomes first Indian to win a gold in the Asian women’s artistic gymnastics championships in Tashkent on Sunday. This is her second medal in the championship, after winning a bronze in Heroshima in 2015.
The 30-year-old, Dipa scored an average of 13.566 in the vault final on the final day of competition in Uzbekistan's capital city. North Koreans Kim Son Hyang (13.466) and Jo Kyong Byol (12.966) won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

"History created at The Asian Gymnastics Championship. Inspirational, Dipa! Congratulations on the #Gold," Sports Authority of India tweeted. “I can’t say how happy I am. This performance has come after surgeries and suspension. No other (Indian) gymnast has done this. So, this medal is really special. I must thank (my coach Bishweshwar) Nandi sir. He has been with me through all my difficult times," Dipa said on her win.

Ashish Kumar (floor exercise, bronze, Surat, 2006) and Pranati Nayak (vault, bronze medals in Ulaanbaatar, 2019, and Doha, 2022) are the other Indians to claim Asian championships medals.
