Netflix has brought us another captivating crime mystery named Kohrra by Sudip Sharma and directed by Randeep Jha starring Barun Sobti, Suvinder Vicky, Manish Chaudhary & Harleen Sethi in pivotal roles, the 8-episode series is streaming on Netflix now.
It starts with a murder of an NRI bridegroom just before his wedding as police investigation starts unfolding the mystery grows with the things happening in the lives of victims, killers, investigators and their families. Sudip Sharma ties different factors all together and bound them in one central theme.
Suvinder Vicky & Barun Sobti plays the lead roles as cops being the most co-operative bond between two police men. Unlike other cop dramas Kohrra doesn’t really follow the stereotypical representation of police investigation, it shows beyond it, grows inside the daily personal & professional lives of these officers and for obvious reasons how they are manipulated due to hierarchies.
Apart from crime & investigation it also serves us many stories of falling out families, relationships between a married daughter & her father, two mid-age brothers, widowed wife, families of rich businessmen and so on. It covers many conflicts in general society and gives Kohrra a whole new aspect.
It all starts with the discovery of a dead body in the fields. What unfolds after is a super twisted investigation with many lives at stake. The series has been shot in Punjab with a typical local setting. We have the actors, most of them speaking hardcore Punjabi. As we keep watching, it is easy to realize just how messed up things were since the beginning.
Suvinder Vicky leads the show well, he doesn’t let fall a single moment with his pure acting skills. Barun Sobti as his ‘partner in solving crime’ does his role perfectly. He plays a convincing Punjabi even when it is hard to make out what he’s saying given his sluggish dialogue delivery. Manish Chaudhari, Harleen Sethi & Rachel Shelley play their characters well.
