Dolly Parton's Jolene was Agatha All Along, confirms showrunners

Marvel Television's Agatha All Along streamed its 6th episode titled, ‘Familiar By Thy Side,’ which provided lore to Joe Locke’s character William Kaplan/Billy Maximoff while also giving insight into Agatha’s past.

According to the show, Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn, has been alive since the 17th century and has been infamously known for killing the witches of whatever coven she is a part of. The episode revealed that she was present at the site of some of the most iconic disastrous moments in human history. She allegedly was found in a photograph of the Hindenburg disaster and was present on the Titanic when it sank. However, the most dramatic was the show referring to her as Jolene in a picture of her getting slapped by Dolly Parton.

Dolly Parton, a legendary singer, is known for her emotion-heavy songs, one of which was titled Jolene. Jolene is a song about a woman named Jolene who was cheating on her husband. In the song, she asks Jolene not to take her husband away from her. However, Jolene's identity was never revealed. Showmakers took this anonymity to their benefit, claiming that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Dolly Parton’s Jolene is the witch Agatha Harkness herself.

Agatha All Along is about Agatha being trapped under a spell and is set free by a goth teenager who wants to face the Witches' Road trials. Agatha and the teenager form a coven of misfits and face the trials together to regain Agatha's powers. All six episodes are streaming on DisneyPlus, with three more to come.
