Conan O'Brien hosted the Academy Awards for the first time, and shocked the audiences by attempting to speak a few sentences in Hindi. Conan kickstarted the ceremony with a monologue, when he paused in between to greet the Indian audiences in Hindi.

Conan said, "For those of you watching from India, I would say 'Bharat ke logo ko namaskar. Waha subah ho chuki hai toh mujhe umeed hai ki aap naashte ke saath Oscars ke anand”, which translates to ‘Greetings to the Indian people. It’s morning there, so I hope you are enjoying your breakfast with the Oscars’.

This gesture of Conan has received mixed reactions from the public, with some appreciating his effort at connecting with the Indian audiences, while the others felt that he butchered the language. Some users took to their social media accounts to talk about this viral moment.

One user commented, "Conan O'Brien deserves an Oscar for the best foreign language attempt! Good job, though the Hindi was definitely ‘Hinding’! #Oscars2025," while another wrote, "#ConanOBrien kicked off the #Oscar ceremony with a thoughtful shoutout to India. Spoke in Hindi to connect with viewers. #Oscars2025." 

But there were some people who were not happy with this, and took to social media to express their disappointment, "Good attempt, but honestly, Conan totally butchered the Hindi greeting! #Oscars," commented a critic.”, another one said, "Did Conan say in Hindi? Couldn't understand a word”.

Meanwhile, at the 97th Academy Awards, India received only one nomination for the film ‘Anuja’ Best Live Action Short Film category, but lost to a Dutch film called ‘I’m not a Robot’.
