Delhi, on Saturday, woke up to see the Yamuna River covered in thick white foam. Citizens took the matter to social media, demanding quick action as Chhat Pooja nears.
Delhi, the National Capital, has always suffered from a low air quality index and toxic Yamuna River in the winter. The Delhi Government promises to work on fixing the problem, but they fail to act. Today, upon seeing a thick, dense layer of toxic white foam covering the entire river, the citizens took their displeasure to social media. They have been tagging the Aam Aadmi Party leaders and demanding them to take quick action before the city celebrates the Chhath Pooja.

The citizens and experts blame the industries around the banks of Yamuna but their reckless dumping of ridicule into the river. The lack of strict implementation of waste management policies by the government is also the reason for this yearly reaction.
Chhath Pooja is one of the most auspicious Hindu festivals, where devotees go knee-deep into the river or take a dip in the water as part of rituals. Practising any of these in the toxic waters of Yamuna raises health concerns among citizens.
