The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was shut down due to landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the area.
The Mughal Road connects the 2 border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu to Shopian district in Kashmir. The road, which had been closed due to adverse weather conditions and fresh snowfall, has now been reopened to alleviate the congestion that resulted from the blockage of the 250 km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
Hundreds of vehicles were stuck on the national highway, the only all-weather route linking Kashmir to the rest of the country, after heavy rain and cloudbursts on Sunday caused severe floods, landslides, & mudslides in the Ramban district. The historic Mughal Road was reopened for one-way traffic on the15th of April after being closed for three months during winter.
Anyhow, it was shut again on April 18 due to new snowfall in the region. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has now cleared the road to facilitate the normal flow of traffic.
