Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate 3 advanced naval combatants – INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer – to the country upon their commissioning at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Wednesday.
During his visit to Maharashtra, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the ISKCON Temple in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, according to a statement from the PM's Office on Monday.
The commissioning of these three major naval combatants marks a significant step toward India’s goal of becoming a global leader in defense manufacturing and maritime security. INS Surat, the fourth and final ship of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project, is one of the biggest and most advanced destroyers in the world. It boasts 75% indigenous content and is fully equipped with cutting-edge weapon and sensor systems, as well as advanced network-centric capabilities.
INS Nilgiri, the 1st ship of the P17A Stealth Frigate Project, has been designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and features advanced attributes for an improved survivability, seakeeping, and stealth, showcasing the next generation of indigenous frigates.
INS Vaghsheer, the sixth and final submarine of the P75 Scorpene Project, underscores India’s growing capabilities in submarine construction, which was developed in collaboration with the Naval Group of France.
Moreover, in line with his dedication to enhancing India’s cultural heritage, PM Modi will also inaugurate the Sri Sri Radha Madanmohanji Temple, a project by ISKCON.
The temple spans over nine acres, the project includes a temple with multiple deities, a Vedic education center, planned museums and an auditorium, and a healing center. Its aim is to foster universal brotherhood, peace, and harmony through the teachings of the Vedas.
