Today, Justice Sanjiv Khanna was appointed as the 51st Chief Justice of India at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others.
The 64-year-old Justice Sanjiv Khanna succeeded Former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, who retired yesterday from the top legal position in the country. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in Delhi and was administered by President Droupadi Murmu. The ceremony was attended by Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other ministers along with Former CJI DY Chandrachud.

However, Chief Justice Khanna will only serve as the Chief Justice of India for six months, i.e. in May 2025, because he will be retiring in 6 months. Chief Justice Khanna comes from a line of Judges as his father, Justice Dev Raj Khanna, was a Judge at Delhi High Court.
Chief Justice Khanna started out his career as a lawyer before being appointed as a judge at the Delhi High Court in 2005, following which, in 2019, he was appointed as the Supreme Court Judge.
