The confrontation began after the suspected insurgents launched a large-scale assault from 2 directions on a police station in Jiribam, sources said. A relief camp for internally displaced people is situated near the police station, and it is believed that the attackers may be aiming to target the camp.

According to a police officer speaking to NDTV from Jiribam, the attackers most probably arrived in autorickshaws. The Borobekra police station in Jiribam was targeted multiple times in recent months.

Following the assault on the police station, the suspected Kuki militants moved towards a nearby settlement in Jakurador Karong, which is located 1 km from the police station. There, they set all the houses on fire while simultaneously engaging in a gunfight with security forces, sources added.
