Hyderabad: Mohammed Sufiyan, a resident of Telangana who was deceived by a recruitment agent and ended up working as support staff for the Russian army, returned home on September 14. The arrival of Sufiyan (22) from Narayanpet district concludes the distressing wait for his family, who were anxious about his safety while he was assisting the Russian military in its conflict with Ukraine.
Sufiyan revealed that he was promised a job in security but was not informed that he would be required to support troops in the ongoing war. He was told he would undergo a three-month training period, after which his salary would be increased.
Sufiyan, who departed from India in November last year, had been employed as support staff for the Russian military. Following strong representations by Prime Minister Modi to President Vladimir Putin during his visit, Russia agreed to expedite the release of Indian nationals working with the Russian military as support staff.
