A 51-year-old resident of Pune was apprehended at Mumbai International Airport for allegedly tearing away pages from his passport to hide his journeys to Bangkok from his family, a police official reported on Wednesday.
The person, Vijay Bhalerao, was stopped by immigration officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) early Monday during a routine check when it was discovered that many pages in his passport had been torn.
A police representative said that Bhalerao had traveled to Bangkok 4 times last year. Previously this month, he had flown to Indonesia from the Mumbai airport.
His questioning opened up that he tore pages of his passport to hide his visits to Bangkok from his family, the official said. Bhalerao was taken to Sahar police station & he was booked under relevant sections under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) & the Passport Act. Further investigation is on the way, the official added.
