IBS Chairman VK Mathews Recalls Two Funny Incidents With Ratan Tata.

Following the demise of Industrialist Ratan Tata at the age of 86, many stories about his humble and generous nature was shared by people who met him. IBS Software Executive Chairman VK Mathews shared his interaction with the late legend from their trip to the US.

“I had the privilege of spending some time with Ratan Tata during a trip to the US, and two incidents from that visit will always stay with me,” said Mathews.

“One morning, we ended up having breakfast together at his own hotel in New York, yet, on his instructions, he never identified himself to the serving staff. It was a small but telling gesture of his humility.” he revealed and continued “Later that same day, my family and I happened to bump into him at another restaurant. To my surprise, there he was, personally verifying and correcting his food bill before paying with his credit card — something so simple, yet it spoke volumes about his character.”

Mathews went on to compliment Tata's sense of humour. He remembers Ratan Tata coming up to him and asking "Am I chasing you, or are you chasing me?" According to him, Ratan Tata was quick to establish connections with the people around him and he was a very funny person. He could make the room lighten up, regardless of how serious the situation was.

He called him a visionary leader who embodied the energy, hope and success of emerging India. As per him, Ratan Tata was a leader with a deep and genuine commitment to India's economic and social progress.

The Business Tycoon passed away in Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai.
