Bengaluru Government Bans Meat During Ganesh Chaturthi: Know More

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued a complete ban on the sale and slaughter of meat on September 7 on the account of Ganesh Chaturthi.

The BBMP’s animal advisory board has issued the guidelines to all meat shop owners. They reported that around 3,000 meat shops in the city are under the BBMP's jurisdiction, and an order has been sent to all licensed meat shops.

''Animal slaughter and sale of meat in shops is completely prohibited. Butchery under the jurisdiction of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Corporation on the occasion of the festival,'' the Joint Director said in a press note. They have also issued a strict ban on the sale and manufacture of Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris. If the designers break the rules, they will face severe penalties.

The Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM), has issued guidelines for the organisers of Ganesh Chaturthi festival regarding safety and usage of electricity during the celebrations. “When setting up pandals, serial lights, and other decorations, handle electrical wires with care. Make sure the wiring for serial lights is properly insulated. Avoid contact with electric poles when installing lights. Do not attach 'shamiyanas,' tents, or other items to electrical wires, poles, or transformer stations. Be cautious of overhead power lines during processions. Do not try to lift power lines and inform Sub-Divisional Officers about the procession route in advance for assistance. Report any live wires or electrical sparks immediately by calling the 1912 helpline."
