The Maharashtra Government has made a new rule of compulsory speaking the Marathi Language in all Government and Semi-Government Offices. Now all the employees have to speak in Marathi while conversing with each other.
On Monday, the Maharashtra Government issued a new Government Resolution (G.R). The new G.R. is about compulsory speaking the Marathi Language in all Government and semi-government offices. As per the directive, employees must communicate in Marathi with all visitors, except those from outside India or non-Marathi-speaking states. This New Resolution applies to all Government and Semi-Government bodies and corporations under the Maharashtra government and other related offices.
Any Violation or if the rule is not followed will be considered as indiscipline and even Citizens can file formal complaints against employees who fail to follow the rule with the in charge of the respective department. If the complainant is unsatisfied with the action taken, they can move this issue to the Marathi Language Committee of the Maharashtra Legislature for further intervention, the resolution said. The move aims to reinforce the use of Marathi in official communication and ensure better accessibility for Marathi-speaking citizens in government offices.
The GR also stated that PC (personal computer) keyboards in all offices should have Marathi Devanagari alphabets apart from Roman alphabets. The Marathi Language Policy was approved last year, had recommended the use of Marathi in all public affairs to further the steps taken for the preservation, conservation, promotion, dissemination and development of the language.
